Mandatory for crew on vessels subject to the IGF Code

The use of gas, such as LNG, and other low-flashpoint fuels such as ships’ fuel has increased in recent years and poses particular safety challenges. To manage these properly the IMO adopted the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code) in 2015 and has added related aspects to STCW. The IGF training allows seafarers to comply with Regulation V/3 of the STCW Convention, ‘Mandatory minimum requirements for the training and qualifications of masters, ratings and other personnel on ships subject to the IGF Code’, which comes into force in January 2017.

  • an advanced training for Masters, engineer officers and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel systems on ships subject to the IGF code, satisfying section A-V/3 – paragraph 2 of the STCW Code, referred to as the ‘Advanced IGF Training’.

Please note that both courses exclude a practical fire-fighting exercise.
